Burn Calories Fast – Rapid Weight Loss Diet Extras
So your on a rapid weight loss diet, becoming more motivated and now you want to do a little more to help get further into shape and benefit your weight loss some more.
Well there are some great tips and techniques that are often over looked so here we will outline some of them for you to put into practice right away. Here are 3 top tips to burning more calories.
- Build more muscle! I know this sounds strange and if you’re like me it brings images of a knuckle head into your thoughts, but you don’t have to beef up. Just think of toning up and improving your strength a little. Aside from the obvious benefits of being stroger, more muscle will need to be fed, even when you sleep. Where does it get food and energy? Yep, you got it – stored or excess calories. Even when you are fast asleep, muscle needs calories to stay alive.
- Rapid changes in heart rate. I used to be thought that you needed to get your heart rate into the fat burning zone for 20 minutes before you saw any benefit. Well new studies reveal that you will burn calories quicker with a quick, short, sharp change in your heart rate. So short sprints are better than marathons if you see what I mean. Try some short runs of just one minute then rest or even a burst of energy as you run up a flight of stairs.
- Eat smaller portions and eat slowly. Sounds like I am stating the obvious but actually many of us eat too much too quickly. Before our brain even realises we are full, we have polished off the plate! So grab smaller meals and eat slowly. This gives your brain time to realise you have taken on board enough fuel and it signals that you are full. You will be surprised how much less you need to eat.
Obviously make sure that these tips match up with any diet you are currently on. Most of the time small ‘extras’ like this work and fit in well with whatever diet you are on so take them on board and keep up that slimming work.
Thanks for the information on this post. I think I am in the category of being a fast eater.
I will take your tip and eat a little slower and see if that helps with burning more calories.

Point No. 2, rapid changes in heart rate, seems to have made it to the gyms, too. Some do offer training programs where they do this “interval” training where you do x seconds slow and steady exercise, and then x seconds you give it all. This would be changing your heart rate rapidly. So there must be something behind it!
I also believe in eating slower and eating smaller portions. Our portion control in the Western World has completely blown out of proportion.

These are excellent tips. In addition, it is a good idea to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep your body hydrated and flush toxins out. It’s also good to eat 5 or 6 small meals so your blood sugar doesn’t get too low causing you to eat the wrong kinds of foods.
I agree. Eating smaller portions and eating more slowly will definitely help you to lose weight. Most portions of food in the western world, especially the US, are huge!

I agree with #3 also. I always said that it is better to eat less at each meal, but eat at least 4 times a day. And chewing your food properly will help you whole digestive system.

I’ve never heard that the speed at which you consume your meals affects your weight. Very intriguing idea, though, and likely pretty helpful. I know I, for one, eat way too fast and end up stuff pretty often. Gotta slow down!

A good way to reduce caloric intake is to get a “split plate” and share a meal when dining out. As Linda said, the meals in the US can be huge, I find this true at many up-scale diners.
Muscle growth is essential for weight loss. As stated, muscle burns more calories than fat, even when idle. Therefore the more muscle you have the more calories you require to maintain energy.
If you build up muscle and reduce calorie intake, you should see substantial weight loss short term.
Very good advice about slow eating, it takes the brain 20 minutes to tell your body it is full during meals, if you wolf down your food you won’t give your body time to know it’s full and you will end up still feeling hungry and maybe indulging in an unneccesary dessert…..then feeling totally bloated soon after!
Running up a flight of stairs is a great idea … quick and simple enough to do. And it would get your heart rate up. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve always been a slow eater, myself, but a big eater! I am very active, so I maintain decent weight. I completely forgot about rapid changes in heart rate. Thanks for the reminder!
